Apple has officially announced the MacBook Air 13 2022 model with the new Apple M2 chip inside during the 2022 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference ( WWDC22 Apple Event ). This will be available to purchase / pre-order from July 2022 onwards from Apple Store, Amazon.in, Flipkart, Croma store, etc.

Apple MacBook Air 13 2022 with M2 chip price in India starts at ₹1,19,900 ( Base model with 8GB Unified Memory and 256GB SSD Storage ). The Apple M2 chip on this has an 8-core CPU and an 8-core GPU.

If you want more graphics power, you can opt for a Macbook Air 13 with an M2 chip equipped with a 10-core GPU. The launch price for this model starts at ₹1,49,900 in India ( 8GB Unified Memory, 512GB SSD Storage ).

M2 starts the next generation of Apple silicon. Back Panel Build quality issues for 2022 Apple iPad Air M1 India models?

2022 Apple iPad Air with Apple M1 Chip models were launched during the 2022 March Apple Event. This is the first time Apple is using the M1 chip in an Apple iPad Air series. Older models came with an A-Series chip which is also powerful. The M1 chip is a proven chipset and offers top-end performance, and is also found in Apple’s Macbook Air models as well as Mac Mini 2020 desktops.

So the performance is not an issue here. How about the built quality?

As of this writing ( March 24, 2022 ), there are currently 5 Verified Purchase reviews available on Amazon.in for the 2022 Apple iPad Air with Apple M1 Chip. All these reviewers are giving 1 Star reviews and are complaining about the back panel build quality.

All verified purchase reviews are complaining about one thing – the back panel. “Cracking noise on the back panel” complains a buyer. Another user complains “The new ipad has the worst build quality for its price“.

I ordered and received two blue iPad Air 2022 today and I’m a bit shocked. The aluminium backplate is a lot thinner than on the iPad 4 which I also have. You can almost feel the battery through the plate when you hold the device. Both iPads have the same feeling and are making creaking noises when you hold them. This did not happen on the iPad Air 4. Both are going back but is it just me? I also asked a second person and she felt it too.

In India, the price for iPad Air 2022 with M1 chip starts at ₹54900 for the base 64GB WiFi-only model. The WiFi + Cellular model has a price tag of ₹68900. For that price, Apple should provide a device with good build quality, looks like they somehow didn’t test the quality of the back panel enough and shipped out the devices.

Apple has officially launched Mac Studio 2022 desktop in India online. The price starts at ₹189900 for the base model. You can pre-order this online from the Apple Store, and will is expected to be available to purchase from Flipkart, Amazon.in, Reliance Retail, Croma Retail, etc in the coming days.

Unless you own a Google Pixel or a flagship Samsung product, chances are you have to wait weeks and months to get an OTA with the new software update. Apple on the other hand pushes new updates to all eligible devices without much delay. Not only do the updates come faster, but you also get updates for many years to come. Apple sends updates to an iPad for around 4-5 years. There are no Android tablets out there that get such long official updates. So if you are buying an Apple iPad 9th Gen in 2022, you will still be getting major software updates in 2025. How great is that?

Google doesn’t have a dedicated Android Tablet UI. This will change with the launch of the upcoming Android 12L though. Even then, there is something Google can’t fix easily – Tablet App support. Apple Appstore has a lot of great apps designed for Tablets available while many Android apps are not designed well to work on a big, tablet UI. They just scale up to fit the big display and don’t look good. I am not saying all apps are like that but compared to what you get on the Apple AppStore, Google PlayStore apps are a bit behind. Again, this can change in the future, if Google decides to make a dedicated Android version for tablets, and maybe launch a few new Google Pixel tablets as well.

Apple iOS / iPad OS is known for its great battery backup. Many Apple iPhones in the market still have a smaller battery compared to Android phones, but achieve great battery life thanks to the optimizations Apple made in their operating system. Also, Apple uses its own chips, which are again optimized to draw less power. The A13 Bionic chip on the iPad 10.2 9th Generation not only offers good battery life, but it also offers good and fast performance.

Even though you have to pay an extra sum to buy an Apple Pencil, it’s great to have stylus support. It works flawlessly and lets you take Notes, create artworks, etc. The software support is great.

The only major disadvantage/con I can think of is the amount of ram memory this has got. If you multitask a lot with a lot of Google Chrome tabs open and all, chances are you would run into out-of-memory issues. Other than that, and of course a bit expensive, there aren’t many cons I can think of. All in all, I would recommend getting an Apple iPad 9th Gen or even older 8th Gen model over an Android tablet as it offers better value for money in my opinion.
