Galaxy Z Fold8: Cover and Main Display Built for Different Content

Samsung positions the Z Fold8 as a device that moves between quick cover-screen interactions and a larger unfolded display for reading, gaming and video. At 201g, Samsung calls it its lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet, and it houses a 4800mAh battery.

The cover screen uses a 10:16 ratio suited to messaging, browsing and short-form video, while the unfolded main display switches to a 4:3 ratio aimed at reducing unused screen space during films and games; Samsung says the ratio also adapts better for reading articles and e-books when rotated.

The series introduces Flex Titanium, a display structure combining a titanium alloy film with an enhanced titanium plate that Samsung says reduces crease visibility and improves resistance to repeated folding and everyday impact. The main display reaches 3000 nits peak brightness, paired with Vision Booster and a low-reflection finish for outdoor use.

Camera hardware is a dual 50MP system covering wide and ultra-wide shooting. Dual Recording captures both sides of a scene while previewing the user on the cover screen, and My FanCam tracks a selected subject automatically and reframes footage to a chosen aspect ratio.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: 8-inch Display and 200MP Camera

The Z Fold8 Ultra is Samsung’s higher-tier foldable, built around an 8-inch main display, a 4.1mm unfolded profile that Samsung describes as its slimmest Fold design yet, and a weight of 215g.

Its 200MP main camera now supports High Dynamic Range in 200MP mode, and Samsung has added a new 50MP ultra-wide camera for wider scenes and macro shots. Nightography has been updated for both photo and video in low light. For video, the Z Fold8 Ultra supports 8K recording using the APV codec, with Cine LUT tools for on-device colour and tone adjustment.

The device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy platform and carries a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

Galaxy Z Flip8: AI-Native FlexWindow

Samsung has redesigned the Z Flip8’s cover display, calling it an AI-native FlexWindow that surfaces apps, notifications and Galaxy AI features without opening the phone. Now Brief on FlexWindow shows personalised updates and suggested actions, and Gemini Intelligence can be triggered from the side key or by voice for tasks that don’t require unfolding the device. At 180g and 6.1mm thick, Samsung describes it as its slimmest and lightest Flip smartphone to date.

The camera setup centers on a 50MP sensor with Samsung’s ProVisual Engine, aimed at portraits, skin tones and background blur. Flex Mode supports hands-free shooting angles, Camcorder Grip with Zoom Rocker is built for on-the-move video, and Super Steady now includes Horizon Lock, covering selfie video shot on the cover screen too. FlipShot lets users customise the FlexWindow for mirror selfies, alongside a Cover Screen Mirror preview.

Galaxy AI Across the Series

Samsung’s Galaxy AI features run across all three devices. Now Brief surfaces information based on routines and daily needs, while Now Nudge suggests next steps such as checking a schedule or saving a location as conversations develop. Gemini Intelligence is designed to complete tasks in fewer steps, with app automation Samsung says now covers 49 supported applications and services — including restaurant searches, reservations and booking flows. Notebooks in Gemini can compile notes, images and recordings into meeting summaries and other structured documents.

Security and Privacy

Samsung Knox protects the devices from the chip level, including Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection for app-specific encrypted storage and Knox Vault for a tamper-resistant hardware layer. One UI 9 adds an AI Assistant Activity dashboard giving users a central view of AI automations, and Enhanced Privacy Alerts flag background permission access attempts.

Switching to Galaxy

Samsung’s updated Smart Switch lets iPhone users transfer data by scanning a QR code on their current device, without installing a separate app. Quick Share now supports AirDrop compatibility, allowing file transfers between iOS and Galaxy devices in both directions.
