Check the Older Model Numbers First

Laptops launching in 2026 carry higher prices than the models before them, largely because memory and storage costs climbed through the year. It is worth checking whether earlier Legion 5 model numbers are still listed and in stock before placing an order, as one of them may cost less.

Processor & Graphics

The processor is the AMD Ryzen 7 250, with 8 cores and 16 threads, a 3.3 GHz base clock, boost up to 5.1 GHz, and 8MB L2 plus 16MB L3 cache on an AMD SoC platform. Its integrated AMD Ryzen AI NPU is rated at up to 16 TOPS.

On the 83Q7009KIN, graphics move up to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 with 8GB GDDR7, running a 2497MHz boost clock at a 115W TGP and rated at 572 AI TOPS, with G-SYNC support.

Cooling is Legion Coldfront: Hyper, using turbo fans and 3D heat pipes, and Fn+Q cycles through performance modes. Lenovo says AI Engine+, driven by the LA1 AI chip, detects the running game or app in Balance mode and adjusts settings on the fly, with everything managed through Legion Space.

Memory & Storage

Memory is a single 16GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM in one of two DDR5 slots, which are dual-channel capable, and Lenovo lists support up to 32GB DDR5-5600. The second slot is free.

A 512GB M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD handles storage. The chassis has two M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, taking up to two drives. Lenovo’s specification sheet lists up to 2TB per drive, while the Amazon India listing puts the limit at 1TB for M.2 2242 drives and 2TB for M.2 2280 drives.

15.3-inch WQXGA OLED 165Hz Display

Resolution on the 15.3-inch OLED is WQXGA (2560×1600), with a 165Hz refresh rate and a glossy finish. Brightness is rated at 500 nits typical and 1000 nits peak, and the panel is certified for DisplayHDR True Black 1000, with Dolby Vision and G-SYNC support. Colour is X-Rite factory calibrated, and the screen-to-body ratio is 92% AAR.

Lenovo’s sheet lists 100% DCI-P3 coverage, while the Amazon India listing states 100% sRGB. The display carries TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free and Low Blue Light (hardware solution) certification along with Pantone Validated and Pantone SkinTone Validated marks. There is no touch or pen support.

Connectivity

Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be 2×2) and Bluetooth 5.4 handle wireless, and a 100/1000M Ethernet (RJ-45) port covers wired networking.

I/O Ports

  • 2 x USB-C (USB4, 40Gbps) with USB PD 65-100W input, 15W output and DisplayPort 1.4

Processor & Graphics

This laptop is powered by AMD Ryzen 7 250 chipset, an 8-core, 16-thread processor with a 3.3 GHz base clock and boost to 5.1 GHz, backed by 8MB of L2 and 16MB of L3 cache. An integrated AMD Ryzen AI NPU rated at up to 16 TOPS handles on-device AI work. The 83Q7009JIN (Legion 5a) also carries a dedicated LA1 AI chip, which drives Lenovo AI Engine+.

Graphics is handled by NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU 8GB GDDR7 with a 2662 MHz boost clock and a 115W TGP ( Total Graphics Power ), rated by NVIDIA at 440 AI TOPS. G-SYNC is supported.

Cooling

Thermals are handled by Legion Coldfront: Hyper, built around precision-engineered Falcon fans, 3D copper heat pipes and aluminium heat sinks, with AI tuning layered on top. Performance modes switch fucntionality is available with Fn+Q shortcut keys.

Lenovo quotes two separate power figures for the cooling system: a 115W TGP for the RTX 5050 itself, and a 160W TDP in Extreme Mode, which is the combined system power ceiling the thermal solution is rated to handle rather than the graphics card’s own allocation.

Memory & Storage

It ships with 1x 16GB SODIMM DDR5-5600 in a two-slot, dual-channel-capable layout, expandable to 32GB DDR5-5600. Since only one slot is populated at purchase, the second can be used to add more ram memory.

For storage, it has a 512GB M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD. Lenovo lists two M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots on this chassis, supporting up to two drives and up to 2TB per drive. There is no optical drive and no card reader.

15.3-inch WQXGA OLED 165Hz Display

This Legion 5a (Legion 5 15AHP11) features a 15.3-inch WQXGA (2560×1600) OLED Glossy panel that supports 165Hz refresh rate. The max brightness supports is 1000 nits peak ( in HDR model – certified to DisplayHDR True Black 1000 ) and it has regular 500 nits typical brightness. It also supports Dolby Vision and G-SYNC, and carries X-Rite factory colour calibration with a 92% active area ratio.

Lenovo’s specification sheet lists colour coverage as 100% DCI-P3, while the Amazon India listing states 100% sRGB. Either way it ensures excellent color reproduction.

The panel is not a touchscreen and pen input is not supported.

For wireless connectivity, it has Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be 2×2) with Bluetooth 5.4. A wired 100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet port is fitted. WWAN is not supported.

  • 2 x USB-A (USB 5Gbps)

What We Like About This Laptop

  • 15.3-inch WQXGA OLED at 165Hz with DisplayHDR True Black 1000: an OLED panel at 2560×1600 without dropping to a 60Hz or 120Hz refresh rate, at 1000 nits peak
  • RTX 5050 8GB GDDR7 at a 115W TGP: the upper end of the power envelope for this GPU tier, rather than a lower-wattage configuration
  • 160W system TDP in Extreme Mode: Legion Coldfront: Hyper is rated to sustain combined CPU and GPU draw above the GPU’s own 115W allocation
  • Two DDR5 SODIMM slots with only one occupied: the 16GB module can be matched with a second stick to reach 32GB without discarding the original
